Total Time 15 minutes
Servings: 8 1-ounce shots
Course: Beverage
Cuisine: Contemporary

Ingredients

  • 4 oz fresh ginger about 115 g, scrubbed and chopped
  • 2 lemons juiced, about 1/3 cup
  • 2 medium oranges juiced, about 3/4 cup
  • 1/2 cup cold water plus more to dilute
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric optional
  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper optional
  • 1 to 2 tsp honey optional, to taste

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Fine-mesh sieve
  • Medium bowl
  • Clean glass bottle or jar with lid

Instructions

  1. Scrub the ginger, trim any dry ends, and peel only tough or blemished skin. Chop into small coins.
  2. Add the ginger, lemon juice, orange juice, and water to a blender. Blend on high for about 1 minute, until no large pieces remain.
  3. Pour through a fine-mesh sieve set over a bowl. Press the pulp with a spoon until it feels nearly dry, then discard or compost the pulp.
  4. Stir in the turmeric, black pepper, and honey, if using. Taste a teaspoon and dilute with water or more orange juice as desired.
  5. Transfer to a clean covered bottle and refrigerate immediately. Shake before pouring and serve in 1-ounce portions.

Notes

  • This is a concentrated food preparation, not a treatment or cure.
  • Start with a small portion and dilute if the ginger feels too strong.
  • Keep refrigerated and use within 3 days, or freeze extra in small portions.
  • Nutrition is intentionally left for manual calculation because citrus yield, straining, dilution, and honey vary.
